Tips and Tricks for Extra Tasty Sliders
- Make homemade ranch dressing: Making ranch dressing from scratch elevates these sliders and adds lots of extra flavor. Check out this restaurant ranch dressing recipe.
- Crispy bacon adds texture: The cheese, chicken, and slider buns all have a soft texture. To create textural contrast, make sure your bacon is extra crispy, but not burned.
- Don't overload the sliders: Use about 1 oz of chicken per slider. Too much chicken can make the slider soggy.
- Use fresh herbs to reinforce ranch flavor: Adding fresh herbs as a garnish, like dill and chives will make the ranch flavor shine.
Ingredients You'll Need
- Shredded chicken: use this slow cooker BBQ chicken, smoked chicken, or rotisserie chicken
- Slider buns: Use your favorite slider buns. King's Hawaiian works great.
- Sliced cheddar cheese: I like pre-sliced cheese to make things easier and for even cheese melting, but you can use whatever you have on hand.
- Bacon: I like to use thinner bacon as it gets crispier than thick-cut bacon and adds a nice crunchy texture to the slider.
- Ranch dressing: As a ranch dressing fanatic, I love to make my own from scratch, but you can use your favorite store-bought brand.
- Butter: Salted butter, if you only have unsalted, add a pinch of salt for flavor.
- Garlic powder: I use garlic powder because it doesn't burn when toasted in the oven. You can use minced garlic instead, just watch it carefully when cooking so the garlic doesn't burn.
Fun add on's
- Fried onions or onion rings
- Dill pickle chips
- Pickled red onions
- Coleslaw
Substitutions
- Ranch dressing: swap for blue cheese dressing, Caesar dressing, honey mustard, or mayo.
- Cheddar cheese: use Monterey jack, pepper jack, Colby jack, smoked gouda, provolone, or mozzarella instead.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400F. Chop and cook bacon over medium-high heat until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and reserve on a plate lined with a paper towel to remove excess grease. Set aside. Warm the chicken in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, covered, and reserve.
Slice slider buns in half and add to a sheet pan, bottom side up, top side down. Add a layer of the warmed shredded chicken to the bottom buns.
Top the chicken with cheese.
Top the cheese with chopped cooked bacon. Don't skimp on the bacon- it's where the texture is!
Melt the butter and garlic powder in the microwave and brush on the top of the slider buns. Bake for 7-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the top of the buns are toasted.
Remove from oven, drizzle the bacon side with the ranch dressing (add fresh herbs if desired), and top with the slider bun tops. Cut, and serve the siders with more ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
