Skinny Honey Strawberry Basil Mocktail

August 20, 2024 by Suzie J. Leave a Comment

Jump to Recipe

When strawberry season hits you should make this easy, skinny strawberry basil mocktail!  Fresh strawberries are blended with fresh basil leaves, coconut water, honey, and lime juice.  Then, it's poured over ice with your favorite spirit-free alcohol. You won't miss the booze one bit!

Strawberry basil mocktail in a glass with basil on the side. this …

I get super inspired in the summer with all the fresh berries and herbs.  With all the summer parties and BBQs, it's nice to have a non-alcoholic drink that is healthy and low in calories!

This strawberry basil mocktail is made without simple syrup!  Instead, I combine coconut water and a little honey (optional) with the strawberry slices and basil. I know what you're thinking, I don't like coconut water either!  You can't taste it in this drink, it's just there to add a touch of sweetness (and bonus - electrolytes) I promise!

Ingredients You'll Need

Strawberries, basil, limes and honey laid out on a tan backdrop with pink flowers.
  • Fresh or Frozen Strawberries.
  • Fresh Basil.  Perfect if you're growing fresh basil in the garden!  Mixed in the drink and for a garnish.
  • Coconut water.
  • Lime Juice. (or lemon juice) You can use fresh or good-quality bottled lime juice. I use this bottled organic lime juice to make it easy. You can find quality bottled lime juice at your local grocery store.
  • Honey.  Or agave syrup. How much is up to you!  I add a tablespoon for a touch of sweetness.  You can leave it out altogether if you want.
  • Spirit-free alcohol.  I use the spirit-free tequila for a margarita-style mocktail, but spirit-free gin works well too! You can use more coconut water, club soda, or flavored sparkling water if you don't want to use spirit-free alcohol.
  • Ice. To make this drink cold and refreshing.
  • Margarita salt. (optional) or sugar if you want this drink a little sweeter.
  • Frozen Jalapeno. (optional) Freeze a whole jalapeno for at least 2 hours. After assembling the drink, use a microplane-style grater and grate some jalapeno over the top. Adds a nice, spicy kick! (and it looks pretty)

How to Make this Skinny Mocktail

Glass with a salted rim and ingredients to make a strawberry margarita mocktail.
  1. Combine strawberries, fresh basil, lime juice, coconut water, and honey in a blender. Blend on high speed for 10 seconds, or until smooth.
  2. Rim a copper mug or lowball glass with a little honey or lime and gently press into margarita salt, cane, or coconut sugar.
  3. Fill the glass with ice, add a shot of the spirit-free alcohol and top with the strawberry basil mixture.
  4. Garnish with a sprig of fresh basil and some frozen grated jalapeno, if using, for a little kick! Serve and enjoy!

Make Ahead Instructions

Make this fun drink in advance so you can take it to any party! It's great to take fun mocktails to parties so you feel like part of the party if you're not drinking.  I do it all the time and I don't miss the alcohol one bit.

  1. Follow step one as written and add the mixture to a large mason jar or travel container of your choice.
  2. Add the spirit-free alcohol, club soda, or sparkling water and mix.
  3. Bring the garnishes on the side.  (I don't bother with salting the rim at big parties or events, but if it's a small gathering and it works out, then bring the salt, limes, or honey.  It's up to you!)
  4. At the event, fill your glass with ice and pour the mixed drink.  Garnish with fresh basil!  Done!

Storage Instructions

Keep this refrigerated, in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
